The recommended dosage of Synthroid for adults is 200 to 500 mcg as a solution containing 100 mcg/ml. In children older than 12 years, the dosage should be 1.7 mcg/kg P.O. daily. Children aged 6-12 years, the dosage should be 4 to 5 mcg/kg P.O. daily. In children aged 1-5 years, the Synthroid dosage should be 5 to 6 mcg/kg P.O. daily.

Synthroid is used for the treatment of throid problem.

• Synthroid drug shouldn't be used alone or with other agents to treat obesity or weight loss.
• Larger doses of this medication may cause serious or life-threatening toxicity.

General Information:

Synthroid is used in place of natural hormone of the thyroid gland. It is given to patients with thyroid problems where there is insufficient production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. It is also given to people who have Goitre or an enlarged thyroid gland. Synthroid is available in the form of tablets and Injection powder.

Synthroid should be used cautiously in patients suffering from cardiovascular disease, severe renal insufficiency, diabetes mellitus.
The medicine should be taken for its entire length of the course of treatment.

Synthroid medication should be taken exactly as prescribed. The dosage should not be increased or decreased on your own without the doctor's recommendation. The tablet should be taken with a glass of water preferably in the morning. It should be taken half an hour prior to taking food. The medicine should be taken for its entire length of course of treatment. Patients should get their regular blood test done while on this medication.
