Paxil is an antidepressant and belongs to Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs). It is used to treat generic depression, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. Paxil is a new generation drug with the effects matching older drugs and will fewer side effects. It works by restoring balance of some specific chemicals in the brain to treat mood related problems. Availability

It is available as 10, 20, 30 and 40 mg tablets for oral administration only. A suspension and Controlled release tablet is also available for intake on prescription.

I easily get injured and bruised. Have had nosebleeds recently after I started taking Paxil, why?

You may get easily bruised and have nose bleedings as a side effects of Paxil. You should take care of yourself during the course of medication and avoid indulging in activities which may cause injury and bleeding. Other side effects include headache, weakness and muscle stiffness. You may also get uneven heartbeats and fever. You should consult your doctor if the symptoms worsen.

I can’t have sexual intercourse properly after starting to have Paxil?

You may experience some sexual problems during the course; you may have difficulty in having orgasm. It is known side effect of Paxil. You may also experience decreased sex drive during the intake of medication.

I have lot of trouble after I withdrew taking Paxil. I feel very dizzy and occupied, even have hallucinations. I have strange feelings, what should I do?

Paxil withdrawal can be painful and difficult. You should not stop taking Paxil without consulting your doctor. If you plan to leave the medication and switch to another one or just plan to stop it completely, you should get in touch with your doctor and get a plan for it. You should lower down the dosage at first and keep on decreasing it until you learn to live without it.

I take Paxil and I am pregnant, what should I do?

While Paxil is very dangerous for unborn baby and may cause serious effects, you should not stop taking Paxil immediately, consult your doctor and he can devise a way for you as leaving Paxil immediately may cause a depression relapse.
