Adults and children 12 years of age and older: The usual dose is one caplet twice daily.

Allegra-D 120/60mg Ingredients
This combination medication contains two active ingredients:
- Pseudoephedrine belongs to a group of medications called decongestants. Pseudoephedrine works by clearing and draining the nasal passages and sinuses.
- Fexofenadine belongs to a group of medications called antihistamines. During an allergic reaction, the body produces a chemical called histamine, which causes allergy symptoms. Fexofenadine works by blocking the action of histamine in the body to reduce allergy symptoms.

ALLEGRA D is not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age due to the high amount of pseudoephedrine.

Allegra-D 120/60mg Cautions
Decongestants such as pseudoephedrine should be used with caution by people with: a hyperactive, response to ephedrine , diabetes ,enlarged prostate, glaucoma, heart disease , high blood pressure, high intraocular (inside the eye) pressure, kidney disease, overactive thyroid, stomach ulcers
- Kidney disease: People with kidney disease should receive a lower dose because the medication will not be cleared from the body as quickly.
- Pregnancy: It is not known whether this medication is safe to use during pregnancy. It should not be used during pregnancy unless if the potential benefit justifies the possible risk.
- Breast-feeding: This medication should not be used during breast-feeding unless the potential benefit justifies the possible risk. Women who are breast-feeding should speak to their doctor for guidance.
- Children: The safety and effectiveness of this medication have not been established for children less than 12 years of age.
- Seniors: Seniors should use this medication with caution, as they are more likely to experience the side effects of pseudoephedrine.

Allegra-D 120/60mg Description
General Information:
As compared to Allegra that contains Fexofenadine, Allegra D also contains Pseudoephedrine. Hence it is a combination of Fexofenadine and Pseudoephedrine.
Pseudoephedrine acts as a decongestant that shrinks blood vessels in the nasal passages. Dilated blood vessels can cause nasal congestion (stuffy nose).
Allegra D is used to treat sneezing, cough, runny or stuffy nose, itchy or watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching, and other symptoms of allergies and the common cold.
Important facts:
Allegra D should not be used if the patient has used any of these:
MAO inhibitor such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), rasagiline (Azilect), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or tranylcypromine (Parnate) within the past 14 days. If it is used within that period of time, it can cause serious side effects to the body.
Allegra D should not be given to a child without the doctor's permission. The misuse of such medicines can cause death in children.
The patient should tell the doctor if he has any of the following to get a dosage adjustment done or to know if he can take Allegra D:
kidney disease
diabetes
glaucoma
heart disease or high blood pressure
diabetes
a thyroid disorder
an enlarged prostate
problems with urination.
Allegra D Side Effects:
Common Side Effects:
- blurred vision
- dry mouth
- nausea, stomach pain, constipation
- mild loss of appetite, stomach upset
- warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin
- sleep problems (insomnia)
- restless or excitability (especially in children)
- skin rash or itching
- dizziness, drowsiness
- problems with memory or concentration
- ringing in your ears.
Serious Side Effects:
- fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat
- confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior
- severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness
- increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain,numbness, seizure)
- confusion, hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior
- easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
- urinating less than usual or not at all
Allegra D Drug Interactions:
The patient should tell the doctor if he is using any of the following drugs:
- high blood pressure medicines
- a diuretic (water pill)
- medicines to treat irritable bowel syndrome
- bladder or urinary medications such as oxybutynin (Ditropan, Oxytrol) or tolterodine (Detrol)
- aspirin or salicylates (such as Disalcid, Doan?s Pills, Dolobid, Salflex, Tricosal, and others)
- a beta-blocker such as atenolol (Tenormin), carteolol (Cartrol), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol), nadolol (Corgard), propranolol (Inderal), sotalol (Betapace), timolol (Blocadren)
- antidepressants such as amitriptyline (Elavil), clomipramine (Anafranil), imipramine (Janimine, Tofranil), and others.

Allegra-D 120/60mg Direction
Take ALLEGRA D by mouth on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, usually twice daily; or take as directed by your doctor. High-fat meals may decrease the absorption of ALLEGRA D into your bloodstream.
- Swallow the ALLEGRA D tablet whole. Do not break, crush, or chew the tablet; doing so will destroy the long action and increase the chance of side effects.
- Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium can decrease the absorption of this drug. Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking this medication.
- Do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed.
- Do not take ALLEGRA D for several days before allergy testing since test results can be affected.
