Sudafed is an anti-allergen used to relieve nasal congestion and other allergies such as hay fever and sinusitis. It contains active ingredient called Pseudophedrine which belongs to a group of medications termed as decongestants. It helps relieve the respiratory allergies and nasal congestion associated with sinusitis.

Sudafed gives relief from nasal congestion and other allergies by contracting the blood vessels of the lungs and nose. It reduces the blood flow to these parts of the body thus opening the constricted airways of the nasal passage.

Though this is an Over the counter drug, however Sudafed 12 hour overdosage can trigger the ill effects of this medicine. The recommended dosage for people aged 12 years and above is about 2 tablets after a gap of 4 hours. In case of children below the age of 12 years, one must consult the pharmacist.
Sudafed 12 hour tablets should be taken with water. Tablets should be swallowed and chewing of these tablets should be avoided. If a dose is skipped, it should not be included in the next dosage to avoid excessive intake or overdosage. It is advisable to read the medicine insert for directions.
Sudafed 12 hour Side effects
Few side effects that usually can hit elders are depression, visual perception, seizures and in extreme cases death. Though these side effects are very rare, if you observe any of these, you must seek immediate medical advice. Other side effects include nervousness, insomnia, vomiting, giddiness and headache.
