Augmentin is used for the treatment of bacterial infections.

• Augmentin medication should be given cautiously in patients with severe renal insufficiency, infectious mononucleosis.

• The patient should be monitored for seizures when giving high doses of Augmentin.
• Patient's temperature must be checked and watched for other signs and symptoms of superinfection, especially oral or rectal candidiasis.

General information:

Augmentin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin prevents cross-linking of bacterial cell wall leading to cell death. Addition of clavulanate increases drug's resistance to an enzyme produced by bacteria that may inactivate amoxicillin. It is available as tablets and oral suspension.
