General information:
Augmentin is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It contains amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxicillin prevents cross-linking of bacterial cell wall leading to cell death. Addition of clavulanate increases drug's resistance to an enzyme produced by bacteria that may inactivate amoxicillin. It is available as tablets and oral suspension.
