Boniva is used for the treatment of Osteoporosis.

• Boniva should not be used in children younger than 18 years of age as safety of this medicine has not been established in them.
• This drug should not be used concurrently with NSAIDs, aspirin, bisphosphonates.

• People who are unable to sit or stand straight for at least an hour should not take this medicine to avoid stomach problems.
• People taking Boniva medicine should be evaluated for calcium and phosphate levels.
• Patient should be monitored for adequate intake of supplemental calcium and vitamin D during therapy, as appropriate.
• Boniva medication should be used cautiously in patients suffering from severe renal impairment.
• Caution should be aken as patients may develop jaw osteonecrosis during therapy.

Boniva prevents the resorption of bone. It is used to treat osteoporosis mainly in post menopausal women. It reducs the bone reduction and helps gaining the bone mass. Boniva is available in the form of tablets and solution for injection.

The medicine should be taken exactly as prescribed and the dosage should not be increased or decreased on your own without the doctor's recommendation. The medicine should be taken with a glass of water at least 60 minutes prior to the first meal of the day. The tablet should not be sucked or chewed. The patient should stay upright for at least 60 minutes after oral dose to avoid oesophagus irritation.
