Capecitabine is used for the treatment of cancer.

• Capecitabine drug should not be given to children below the age of 18 years as the safety of this medicine has not yet been established in them.
• Women should use reliable birth control method since the drug may harm fetus if they become pregnant while on this medication.
• Patient taking this medicine should avoid infection by getting in touch with other people suffering from infection as Capecitabine lowers the body's immune system.

• Capecitabine is a hazardous drug.
• Patients taking anticoagulants drugs like warfarin and phenprocoumon shoule get their International Normalized Ratio (INR) or prothrombin time (PT) monitored frequently to allow appropriate anticoagulant dosage adjustment as this drug combination can lead to death.
• Patients suffering from renal impairment, hepatic impairment should take this medicine with doctor's approval as thy might need a dosage adjustment.
• The Capecitabine medicine should be given cautiously to elderly patients as severity of side effects is more in them.
• Vaccinations while on this medication are not as effective hence they should be avoided at the time of taking Capecitabine.

General Information:

Capecitabine inhibits the growth and spread of cancerous cells and is used to treat metastatic breast cancer which means the cancer that can spread to other organs of the body. It is also used to treat colon cancer or bowel cancer which includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. Capecitabine is administered in an inactive form where it slows the growth of the tumor tissue. It is available in the form of tablets.

The Capecitabine tablets should be taken exactly as directed by the doctor. The dosage should not be increased or decreased on your own without the doctor's advice.
