TOPAMAX (TOPIRAMATE)

Topamax is a Prescription medicine.

Topamax is usually initially prescribed at an initial dose of 12.5 -25 mg once or twice a day and the total daily dose is increased by 12.5 - 25 mg every week. When prescribed in addition to other anticonvulsants being used as mood stabilizers, the final dose is often between 100 and 200 mg per day. Some patients with Bipolar Disorder do well on as little as a total daily dose of 50 mg/day. It is available in tablets and sprinkle form as well for those who cannot swallow tablets.

Topomax tablets contain following ingredients: lactose monohydrate, pregelatinized starch, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, purified water, carnauba wax, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, polyethylene glycol, synthetic iron oxide (50, 100, and 200 mg tablets) and polysorbate 80.

Topamax is used to treat epileptic fits and Migraine symptoms.

• Read all directions on the Topamax (Topiramate) package before taking
• Migraine patients are generally taking from 100 - 200 mg/day in two divided doses.
• In children, the starting dose is up to 25 mg (1 to 3 mg/kg/day), taken nightly for the first week. The dose is then increased at 1 or 2 week intervals by 1 to 3 mg/kg/day.
