Ursodeoxycholic Acid also known as Ursodiol (UDCA) is a secondary bile acid and is used to reduce cholesterol absorption and to dissolve stones in the gall bladder in patients who want an alternative to surgery. It is also used to treat autoimmune disease of the liver. It is also used to treat a condition in newborn infants where the common bile duct between the liver and the small intestine is blocked or absent and causes jaundice.
