General Information:
Vagifem is used for the treatment of Post menopausal symptoms such as dryness in the vagina and itching. After menopause, the sex hormone in females called Estrogen does not get produced in required quantity, hence causes a condition called Atrophic Vaginitis. Vagifem helps boosting up Estrogen levels in the body and relieving of menopausal discomforts. It is available in the form of tablets, Vagifem Cream and Estradiol Ring
Important facts about Vagifem:
Vagifem should not be used if the person using it has had a brain attack in the past, blood circulation difficulties, breast cancer, Uterus cancer, Excessive bleeding of vagina. It should not be used by pregnant women or who plan to become pregnant while on this medication.
The usage of this medication for a longer period of time can also cause Uterus cancer. To avoid it, it is recommended to use progestins along with Estradiol.
Using Vagifem for a longer duration can also cause breast cancer. It is recommended to visit the doctor on a regular basis while this treatment is on. It is also suggested to check your breasts regularly to notice any lump formation.

- Swollen stomach or pain in the stomach
- Jaundice
- Swelling in breast or formation of lump
Vagifem Drug Interactions:
- St. John\'s wort
- phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton)
- a blood thinner like warfarin
- ritonavir (Norvir)
- carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol)
- rifampin (Rifadin, Rifater, Rifamate, Rimactane)
- antibiotics like clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (E-Mycin, E.E.S., Erythrocin, Ery-Tab), ketoconazole (Nizoral), or itraconazole (Sporanox)
