Valcyte is used for the treatment of Viral infection.

• Valcyte lowers the body's immune system and hence can cause infection. Patients should remain careful and should not come in contact with people suffering from infection.
• People on this medication should get their kidney and eyes and blood tested regularly.
• It should be used cautiously in elderly patients as the severity of side effects is more in them.
• Valcyte drug should not be used in children without the doctor's advice especially in children below the age of 4 months as the safety of this drug has not been established in them.
• Male patients should use barrier contraception during and for 90 days after the therapy.

• Valcyte cannot cure the infection caused by CMV.

General information:

Valcyte is used to treat viral infections caused by cytomegalovirus ( CMV ). This virus belongs to the herpes virus group. CMV can cause life threatening illness in HIV patients, newborn babies and people who have had transplant. Valcyte is available in the form of tablets.
